Pratt Gardens, located in "Sharptown," Pilesgrove Township, New Jersey is the Pratt family homestead. In the early 1970's Jay Pratt, a chemist by profession, started hybridizing azaleas as a hobby. After propagating over 100 different varieties, he began planting them on the rolling hills behind the family home.
In the late 1970's, Mr. & Mrs. Pratt opened their beautiful gardens to the public, free of charge. The tranquil beauty of the natural landscape became a popular destination, particularly in the spring and fall. It was common to find Mr. Pratt (usually with a shovel in his hand and a pipe in his mouth), working on a new project; whether digging a walking path, road, or a frog pond or building an observation deck.
The Pratt Family knows that God has blessed them and they enjoy sharing the serenity of the Gardens with others. Their son, Peter continues the tradition and loves playing host. The Gardens are open to the public for viewing during the last 2 weeks of April and the first 2 weeks of May, depending on the bloom time.
When visiting Pratt Gardens, please wear appropriate foot attire. High heels are not recommended.
